Marching Band members: Receiving Physical Education Flex Credit

Receiving Physical Education Flex Credit for completing 2 full seasons of Marching Band: A student may be able to waive the graduation requirement of 1/2 credit of Physical Education (gym class) following the completion of two seasons of Marching Band between 9th and 12th grades. In addition to 100% participation, the proper paperwork must be completed, signed by Mr. Sekich, and returned to the counseling department to complete eligibility.

Pickup of Bed Sheet / Wreath / Poinsettias orders on Dec 6

The pickup date for Wreaths, Poinsettias & Bed Sheets will be Thursday, December 6th from 2:30 until 6:00 pm in the Stevenson HS Band Room.

If you are unable to pick up your items in this time window, please contact Cyndi Titello directly to make alternate arrangements. Pickup will end at precisely 6:00 pm.

2-3 band students are requested to help sort sheets at the home of Ms. Titello this Sunday (Dec 2) at 1:00 pm. Also, 8-10 band students are requested to help sort Wreaths/Poinsettias & load items to parents cars on December 6th AT SHS beginning at 1:30. TRI-M Hours will be given to those who participate.

NYC 2019 Trip Information!

Here is much of the information that was shared at the Trip Meeting on Thursday, November 15th.

** As of 10 AM on Nov. 29, all registrations are for the wait list **

  1. Travel Contract & Requirements: Every student wishing to go on the NYC trip must complete and return this contract that contains the school academic, behavior, and financial requirements. Place them, when completed, in the envelope on Mr. Sekich's office window.
     
  2. NYC 2019 Trip Package: contains the itinerary, pricing (as of today), and instructions on how to register for the trip, including date requirements.

 

A few important items to note:

  • No student account payments can be applied towards the first payment. Travelers must register online only with Bob Rogers Travel using a credit card
  • Regarding the itinerary: This is the first version - plan on minor adjustments as the trip gets closer. The main activities should stay the same
  • FYI: At times, students will be in groups of their fellow students (without an adult chaperone) exploring NYC. It is up to each parent to decide if their student is mature enough to be without direct adult supervision at certain times during the trip
  • FYI: There are no on-duty medical professionals in our group. Students are expected to have and take any required medicines on their own
  • Family members are welcome to travel with the group. Mr. Sekich will make the final determination of which adults that are on the trip are chaperones
  • There are absolutely NO refunds of any kind through Bob Rogers Travel or the Stevenson Band Boosters! Purchasing travel insurance is strongly recommended

 

 

Student attire requirements - Dec 5 Concert

Students: What to wear for the December 5th Concert!

All Marching Band Members:

  • During the Marching Band portion of the concert, you are wearing your regular Marching Band Uniform (percussion in their football jerseys). No hats, no gloves. You will need to wear your marching shoes and the appropriate color socks (so, white marching shoes = you need to change into white socks).
  • This performance is for the entire Marching Band - no matter which school you attend during the day.
  • There is a rehearsal for the entire Marching Band at 3:30 PM on Monday, December 3rd to review the music from this year's show and to go over logistics. This is NOT a dress rehearsal.

Wind Ensemble/Symphonic Band & Concert Band (2nd, 3rd, 5th hours):

  • Ladies must wear dress black long skirts (below the knee) or slacks, a dress black blouse or sweater, and black dress shoes- preferably flats.
  • Men will be issued a black tuxedo jacket at school. Men must wear a white winged-tipped tuxedo shirt, black dress pants, and black socks with black dress shoes. Bow ties and cummerbunds are provided by the band.
  • Percussion: Follow the same guidelines above.
  • Instead of a school-issued tux jacket, men may wear their own plain black suit (no pin stripes).
  • Tux shirts can be purchased at a discount from Wesner Tuxedo if you mention you are with Stevenson Band.

Jazz Band (4th hour):

  • All Jazz Band members that are performing with either Wind Ensemble and/or Concert Band- you must follow the guidelines above.
  • Jazz Band Members performing exclusively with Jazz Band only are to wear their regular Jazz Performance attire (see Mr. Sekich with questions).

 

 

Holiday Concert - Get Tickets Now!

Advance tickets are now available for the December 5th Stevenson Instrumental Music Concert.

The concert begins at 7 PM and will feature the SHS Concert Band, Jazz Band, Wind Ensemble, and Marching Band. Doors to the auditorium will open at about 6:30 PM. Advance ticket purchasers do not need to wait in line as you will have an assigned seat.

Tickets are $5 for adults 18+, children are free (all tickets are sold on the honor system).

Print your tickets out at home -- or just show them on your smartphone as you enter.

Unsold tickets after 5 PM on December 5th will be available for cash / walkup sales starting at about 6:15 PM.

 

 

Donations being accepted for Marching Banquet Raffle Baskets thru Dec 6

What goes great with food, band, family & fun? The 2018 Marching Band Banquet Basket Raffle!

Band Boosters requesting donations to fill as many baskets as possible

Donations are now being accepted in the bin near the Blue Box in the SHS Band Room no later than December 6th. Be sure your student’s name is attached to your donation as all students who donate will receive a free raffle ticket at the door on the evening of the Marching Banquet.

This is a long standing tradition! - An awesome raffle for our kids (yes, we will have stuff for parents, too!)


Suggested Section Donation Themes*:

  • Alto Sax & Horns: SPORTS – Gift cards, sporting goods items, lawn games, etc
  • Clarinets: COFFEE/TEA – Gift cards, coffee/tea packs, mugs, creamers, etc.
  • Color Guard: CHOCOLATE LOVER – ALL things chocolate ~ YUM!
  • Flutes: HOME ACCENTS – Kitchen Towels, Serving Sets, Décor, Whimsy, etc.
  • Low Brass: BATH & BODY – Lotions, Soaps, Bath Bombs, Men’s Personal Care, etc.
  • Percussion: GIFT CARDS – Gas, Restaurants, Store cards, etc.
  • Trumpets: MOVIES – Gift cards, Popcorn, DVDs, Candy Boxes, Movie Passes, etc.

Marching Banquet FAQ:

  • Who attends?
    - The vast majority of Marching Band members choose to attend - all members are invited no matter which school you attend. Parents are also invited and many attend too. We kindly suggest that due to limited space, siblings that are not in the band stay at home
  • What do we wear?
    - Business casual is fine. Some students, especially seniors, enjoy dressing up
  • What happens at the Marching Banquet?
    - In addition to sharing a delicious meal, each section of the Marching Band will present Section Awards, there will be a number of gift baskets that will be raffled off, and a 50/50 drawing (tickets for both are cash-only). We will also revisit the successful 2018 Marching Season. It's a great night!
  • What are the seating arrangements?
    - Band members sit together in one half of the hall, adults sit together in the other half. First-come, first-served seating except for a couple reserved tables for staff members
  • Anything else?
    - Yep! First-year Marchers will receive their Varsity Letters and a First-Division medals. Returning members will receive their chevrons. Everyone that ordered a panoramic Marching Band Photo by Nov. 16 will be able to pick them up

It's time to order your commemorative photo of the 2018-19 Stevenson Titans Marching Band! You have the choice of ordering your photo(s) either plain ($12) or laminated ($15). Deadline to order is Friday, November 16th for anticipated delivery at the Marching Band Banquet in December.

 

New procedure to order this year: All orders MUST be completed online at the link below using a credit/debit card or e-check. No cash, no paper checks, no money orders (no paper forms) will be accepted!

Class of 2019 - Graduation ceremony announced

Attention seniors!

The graduation ceremony for the Class of 2019 will take place on Sunday, June 9th at the O'Rena on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester Hills.

The ceremony begins at 11:00 AM

Underclassmen: Once plans are solidified, watch for an announcement on what will be happening with a graduation band!

 

 

Alert: Student online playing sample submissions

New!

Mr. Sekich is requiring students to electronically submit playing samples to him. We will be using Charms for this --

To kick this off, all Charms accounts were reset today to their default passwords to allow students access to their accounts for the purpose of being able to submit their playing samples to Mr. Sekich.

Due to the current limitations of the Charms system, it is only possible to have one password per account -- families will need to share their password with each other!
