Booster Golf Outing Committee Members Wanted!

The biggest snow storm of the season (so far) is on the way! So naturally it's time to talk about ... GOLF!!

Mr. Darren Petras has graciously volunteered to chair a golf committee and take the lead organizing a fun outing for the golfers (non-golfers welcome too) in the group.

He has already done a ton of the legwork, including setting a date (Saturday May 11th) and place (Cracklewood GC in Macomb Twp).

Now he'd like some committee members who can help out with even more of the details to make this the best Booster golf outing ever! Any parent interested in helping out, meet Mr. Petras next Wednesday night (Jan 23rd) at 7pm at the Panera bread on Van Dyke & Metro Pkwy (in front of Meijer).

Head on over to our Booster Facebook Group for info on how to reach out to Mr. Petras and express your interest.

SOS Parents - A Message from Mr. Sekich

January 15, 2019

Dear Parents,

I hope the New Year has been enjoyable thus for you and your family!

I am writing to you to ask your support regarding your child’s home practice efforts. I fully understand that the students are very busy these days with studies, work and social activities. I would like to ask you to encourage your child to practice at home more, or before or after school or during lunch more often.

I have noticed that there are many areas in our music that are simply not moving along as they should. We are working VERY hard everyday in class, but we are at the point that the students need to make more of an individual time commitment towards the ensemble’s preparation. We are having weekly individual playing quizzes in class, and the results are not good. We simply cannot use our time in band to learn every part.

Our time together is very important, but we need that time to rehearse together, not to learn parts. This sets the entire pace of the ensemble too far behind. At this point, it is an individual work issue we have at hand.

There has been a massive drop in private lesson study that GREATLY assists with helping your child become more confident and prepared in class. YOU CAN EVEN USE YOUR ACCOUNT TO PAY FOR LESSONS IF YOU HAVE MONEY AVAILABLE! Please contact me if you are interested.

I understand there are circumstances at home that make it very challenging for our kids to practice. However, I have let everyone know that both myself and Mr. Stout are available for help before and after school if they ask. Any student can also practice a little after they eat lunch, as they are in the band room, and have been given a special lunchroom pass to go to the band room to practice if they want.

So, if your child is not bringing their instrument home, or letting you know they need to come in to school early, or stay after for help, I would like to ask you to please encourage this.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
Mr. Sekich

Boosters selected for VGEF Golf Outing

The Band Boosters have been selected to participate as one of several charities that will benefit from the Venture Global Engineering Foundation Golf Outing in 2019.

Please come to our Band Booster meeting this Tuesday, Jan 15 at 7 PM to learn much more about this spectacular opportunity for the kids in the Instrumental Music Program.

Christina Muir-Murphy from the Foundation will be at the meeting to answer questions and help get us kicked off - as will Jon Rose, a former Band Booster president who has agreed to help lead us to another successful campaign.

Having a room full of parents would be an ideal way to signal our support of VGEF. Together we have the opportunity to make 2019 something truly special!!
