Jazz Band: Stevenson Instrumental Music Program

Stevenson High School Jazz

Jazz Band is a full year advanced class that focuses on improvisation and listening skills in addition to playing and music theory. Members are encouraged to experience different genres of jazz through listening to both recordings and, if possible, live events. Attendance at after school rehearsals is mandatory.

Students perform all different types of jazz styles. Typically, the Stevenson Jazz Band will perform at multiple concerts and activities, at MSBOA State Jazz Festival, as well as travel to Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant for a Jazz Weekend in early February. Additional experience opportunities vary each school year.

In addition to the big band, several jazz students opt to participate in Jazz Combo which will also perform at many of the same performances as the full Jazz Band.
